When depression takes over, life feels unbearable

If you’re struggling with depression, you’re not alone. You may feel stuck in a fog of exhaustion, numbness, or sadness that won’t go away. Some days it feels like you’re barely getting by. You go to work, put your best foot forward, and say you’re “fine” when people ask. But underneath, it’s heavy. Everything feels slower and lower, your thoughts, your energy, your hope. Maybe you’re wondering if things will ever feel different.

Depression can affect every part of your life:

  • You feel like you're always fighting to get through the day
  • Things that used to bring joy now feel numb or meaningless
  • You're constantly tired, even after sleep
  • You wonder if there’s something wrong with you

Depression is a treatable condition. Treatment for depression can help you reconnect with yourself and rebuild from a place of compassion, not criticism. At Aviva, we support you at your pace and meet you where you are, not where others think you should be.

What is depression?

Sadness and grief are inevitable in life. Depression, however is more than feeling sad. It can make it hard to care about anything, even the people or activities you love. It can take over your motivation, your focus, and your sense of self. You might find yourself isolating from others or struggling to keep up with basic tasks.

Depression is a common and treatable mental health condition, which many people experience at some point in their lives. It doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your nervous system is signaling that something isn’t okay, and it deserves attention and support.

Common signs of depression:

  • A persistent sense of emptiness or low mood
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Sleeping too much or not at all
  • Changes in appetite or body weight
  • Feeling disconnected from others or from yourself

Evidence-based therapy for depression

At Aviva Psychology Services, our team of doctoral-level psychologists bring advanced training in evidence-based treatments for depression, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and psychodynamic approaches. Therapy for depression can help you navigate the complex emotional, cognitive, and relational impacts of low mood. It can help you build psychological flexibility, enhance self-understanding, and restore a sense of purpose and self-worth.

We recognize that effective treatment is never one-size-fits-all. Depression is shaped by your unique history, relationships, identity, and values.

Whether in person in our offices in Northampton or Downtown Boston or via telehealth, our work is collaborative and personalized. You don’t need to have all the answers before starting therapy. You just need a place to begin. We’ll meet you there and move forward, together.

Ongoing Weekly Sessions

Sessions are held at the same time each week and typically last 55 minutes to work towards meeting your needs and treatment goals.
