Our Expertise:
Parent coaching
Parent coaching is a supportive resource for caregivers to foster a positive, gratifying relationship with their child(ren), address behavioral challenges, assist with transitions, and reduce caregiving and family stress. Parenting comes with persistent, high demands and a multitude of challenges, and coaching at Aviva offers a supportive, nonjudgmental professional partner with psychological expertise to help navigate these. Common support areas include tantrums, sibling rivalry, ineffective communication, opposition, and sleep issues.
Parent coaching supports caregivers to identify their unique parenting style and provides specific skills and strategies to address challenges by increasing cooperation and connection. The process is interactive and transformative, equipping caregivers with tools and insights to nurture their relationship(s) with their child(ren) and increase their confidence in parenting. Raising children takes a village, and having a parent coach is an invaluable resource along the way that can have a lasting, transformative impact.

FAQs about coaching services
How is psychotherapy different from coaching?
Coaching is a distinct service from therapy. While both are offered by psychologists at Aviva with expertise in human behavior and social-emotional health, therapy is a medical intervention designed to diagnose, treat and alleviate mental health symptoms, while coaching is a supportive, time-limited service aimed at developing a specific skillset to improve effectiveness in various areas of life (such as leadership, parenting, communication etc). Both offer interactive and often transformative processes in the context of a supportive, non judgmental professional relationship.
Does insurance cover coaching services?
Health insurance companies only reimburse for medical and mental health services that meet specific clinical criteria including a diagnosis. All therapy services must meet medical necessity criteria for a diagnosed mental health condition. Coaching services are designed for personal development and are therefore not covered by insurance. We do not diagnose coaching clients.
Why choose a psychologist for coaching services?
Psychologists bring a uniquely comprehensive and scientifically grounded approach to coaching. Psychologists have expertise in human behavior and evidence-based behavioral change strategies, offer sophisticated understanding of interpersonal dynamics and communication, provide affirming and non-judgmental helping relationships, and have rigorous professional standards of privacy and confidentiality. Our training uniquely encompasses both intrapersonal and interpersonal strategies, knowledge of individual, group, and system dynamics, and strategies to both overcome obstacles and foster personal growth and achievement. We are well trained to take you beyond surviving to thriving, beyond self doubt to confidence, and beyond relational hardship to relational effectiveness.
