About

Dr. Barrett is a genuine, caring psychotherapist who believes that people cannot be broken, but they can get stuck in patterns, dynamics, and beliefs that make it hard to live a rich, fulfilling life.

She specializes in helping people who feel “stuck” due to the impacts of a disruptive life event (such as trauma, chronic/complex medical conditions, identity/role changes, or loss) or feel “stuck” with symptoms that disrupt daily life (such as intense emotions, panic attacks, phobias, burnout, sleep issues, grief, or compulsions).

She is justice-oriented and is attentive to experiences related to identity, power, privilege, and culture. She especially enjoys working with clients who are members of the LGBTQ+ and/or disability communities. She provides teletherapy for individual adults.

Approach to therapy

Dr. Barrett’s work is grounded in the use of evidence-based interventions, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. As such, she is eager to help clients build mindful awareness of their values, emotions, and behaviors. This awareness ultimately empowers clients to make values-consistent choices to build rich, fulfilling lives, even in the midst of difficult experiences and circumstances.

She is additionally trained in a variety of diagnosis-specific interventions, such as Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD and CBT for Panic Disorder, and she is also adept with transdiagnostic interventions such as the Unified Protocol. For the first seven years of her career, Dr. Barrett specialized in treating trauma in complex, marginalized populations. As such, she has completed advanced training in multiple gold-standard treatments for PTSD, including Cognitive Processing Therapy, Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and Written Exposure Therapy.
