About
Dan Farina is an advanced practicum clinician who is devoted to helping clients heal in
deep and meaningful ways by getting to the roots of their painful symptoms and cycles. Dan believes that lasting change is achieved by developing a trusting therapeutic relationship and working together to face, explore, and grow through significant experiences that underlie clients’ presenting concerns. The change process involves courage and vulnerability, and Dan is committed to joining alongside clients and offering steady compassion and support along the way.
Dan specializes in helping clients reconnect- with themselves, with others, with meaning and purpose- and he enjoys working with clients who experience disconnection in their lives due to depression and anxiety, interpersonal difficulties, trauma, grief, and existential/spiritual concerns.

Approach to therapy
The core aspects of Dan’s approach to therapy are: cultivating a trusting therapeutic
relationship, reflecting on patterns in clients’ presenting challenges, collaboratively
processing experiences that underlie these patterns, and fostering clients’ connection
with their own inner strength and direction. Dan is trauma-informed and oriented by
psychodynamic and humanistic theories, as well as by contemplative traditions. In terms
of techniques, Dan believes different paths to inner work suit different people, so he
flexibly integrates modalities that center on emotions, relational dynamics, mindfulness,
inner “parts” work, and somatic experience.
The therapeutic approaches that Dan draws most from are relational psychoanalysis,
Accelerated Emotional Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), Emotion Focused Therapy
(EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and for clients interested in direct skills training,
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The primary contemplative traditions that have
influenced Dan’s perspective are Taoism and Zen Buddhism.
